Obituaries : William F. "Bill" Tharp

VINTON - William F. "Bill"� Tharp, 66, died Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at his home in rural Vinton. A Celebration of Bill's Life will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Blessed Hope Church in Vinton with Rev. Matt Hantz officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 23, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home, Vinton. Cremation will follow services, and committal services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, at a later date. Bill was born September 20, 1950, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Lois Merle Vogt Tharp. He attended school in Vinton. On September 15, 2000, Bill was united in marriage with Susan Raymond in Vinton. Following a work-related accident, Bill retired in 1978. He enjoyed junkin', NASCAR and football. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Bill is survived by his wife, Susan, of Vinton; three sons: Justin (Bailey Caveglia) Tharp of Dysart; Scott Sondag of Vinton; and Dustin (Michelle Grimm) Sondag of Garrison; two daughters: Tiffany Mast and Jessica (Scott) Good, both of Vinton; one brother, Ronnie (Darlene) Tharp of Denison, TX; four sisters: Sandra Dvorak, Carla Kearns, Paula Tharp and Debra (Ted Usher) Wheeler, all of Vinton; six grandchildren: Nicole (Louis) Trachta, Dayne Young, Teagen Mast, Rayna Wacha, Carter Good and Raelynn Sondag; and two great-grandchildren: Aiden and Eva Trachta. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronnie Tharp; two brothers: Johnnie and Denny Tharp; and one sister, Vicki Schuelka. A memorial fund has been established.
