Obituaries : Tony Snyder

URBANA: Tony Snyder, 64 of Urbana died Friday, December 02, 2016 at his home following a battle with cancer. A gathering of family and friends will be from 4 to 6:30 PM, Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton and will conclude with a funeral service at 6:30 PM. Interment will be at the Urbana Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may be left at: www.phillipsfuneralhomes.com. Tony was born June 11, 1952 to Wendell and Jeanette (Gielau) Snyder in Waterloo. He graduated from East High School in Waterloo and attended Hawkeye Tech for welding and later Kirkwood for trucking school. On May 20, 1972 Tony was united in marriage to Fran Grady in Evansdale. He worked for CMC, FMC, Westside Transportation and Paltech. Tony liked to go fishing, hunting, camping and attending stock car races. He enjoyed spending time working on things in his garage, watching NASCAR on TV and helping others. Most of all, Tony loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren and his great grandson. He is survived by his wife, Fran; his son, Jeff (Jamie) Snyder; his daughter, Janice (Steve) Snyder; his grandchildren, Sarah (Jesse) Snyder, Summer Snyder, Brenden Fischels, Madison Fischels and Hayes Corbin Pettinger; his great grandson, Jesse Jr.; his step grandchildren, William (Melissa) Stone, Adam (Samantha) Sharp, Chloe Pettinger and Zane and Zada; his brothers, Daniel (Deb) Snyder and Joel (Jill) Snyder; his sister, Wendy (Mike) Castleman and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Randall and his aunt, Madeline Gielau. Phillips Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.
