DYSART - Richard "Dick" Carlyle, 73, died Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart following a brief illness. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Private family burial will be at a later date.
Richard Roy Carlyle was born January 20, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Richard and Iva Varner Carlyle. Dick grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Jefferson High School.
On March 14, 1988, Dick was united in marriage with Carol Clime Corcran at the Goodell farm in Vinton, Iowa.
Dick worked for Century Engineering for 20+ years. He also worked at Traer Manufacturing and drove a van for Peoples' Ride.
Dick was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards and camping. He was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers. Dick loved his dogs, Andy, George, Tami and Dottie.
Dick is survived by his wife of 28 years, Carol, of Dysart; 3 sons: Rich (Wendy) Carlyle of Virginia; Rob (Becky) Carlyle of Atkins; and Brian (Lori) Carlyle of Grimes; 1 daughter: Rita (Randy) Emerson-Suchomel of Van Horne; step-children Al (Dixie) Chapman of Ollie and Kayleen Glenn of Dysart; brother Doug Carlyle of Cedar Rapids; sister Sandra (Tom) Lowe of Ely; 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren with one more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Roger Carlyle.
