Vinton—Steve “Bud” De Witt, age 42, died peacefully Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton with Rev. Dan Hoeger officiating. Visitation from 4-8 pm Monday, October 25, 2010 at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home. Burial at a later date.
Steven James De Witt was born January 17, 1968 in Waterloo, Iowa, to Robert and Janice Bowers De Witt. He graduated from La Porte City High School and then attended Northwest Iowa Technical Institute for two years to become certified as a heavy equipment operator. On May 18, 1991 he married Janet Dickson in La Porte City and they were later divorced.
Steve worked at Watco Construction, Coots Materials Company and for the past fifteen years he worked for the Benton County Secondary Roads Department. Steve had a passion for hunting, horses and Harley Davidson motorcycles but the center of his life was his daughter, Madison.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Madison and his parents, Bob and Jan De Witt, all of La Porte City, IA, his sister, Bobbie (Glenn) Hendryx and nieces, Morgan and Lauren of Mt. Auburn, IA.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
A memorial fund has been established.
