GARRISON: Robert Howard Baughman, 90 died Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the Vinton Lutheran Home.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Garrison United Methodist Church with Rev. Lexie Kirkpatrick officiating. Friends may register from 9:30 until service time at the church. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post #57 at the Garrison Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Garrison United Methodist Church. Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.
Robert was born August 16, 1926 at home to Howard and Edna (Feight) Baughman. He graduated from Indianola High School and received his BA in Business from Simpson College in Indianola. Robert served his country in the United States Army during the WWII era.
Robert was united in marriage to Yvonne Uttley on June 12, 1949 in Milo, Iowa. His wife preceded him in death. He farmed in the Garrison area for many years.
Robert was a member of the Garrison United Methodist Church, the Garrison Lions Club, the Garrison School Board and Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post #57 in Vinton. In his leisure he enjoyed fishing, camping, square dancing, couples card club and wintering in Texas. He very much enjoyed receiving the Quilt of Honor and traveling to Washington D.C. on the Honor Flight.
He is survived by his children, Ronald (Patricia) Baughman of Cypress, Texas, Karen Hiemstra of Garrison and Cheryl Hardin of Ft. Madison; his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Mark (Chauntelle) Baughman and their children, Giselle and Jacob of Conroe, Texas, Amy (Bert) Gentles and their children, Lizzy and Luke of Katy, Texas, Tammy (Shawn) Yarbrough of Houston, Texas, Eric (Tristan) Hiemstra and their children, Gabriella, Zoe, Alissia, Ethan, Gemma and Cassia of Glen Arm, Maryland, Howard Hiemstra and his children, Xavier, Alexander and Quentin of Dodge City, Kansas, Katie (Brian) Vanderbilt and their children, Abigail and Christopher of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois; his step-grandchildren, Tara Hardin and her son Avery Hauck of Iowa City, Brooke (Levi) Good of North Liberty; his brother, Ralph (Norma) Baughman of Iowa City and his sisters, Edith Heemstra of Indianola and Marilyn Porter of Dallas, Texas.
In addition to his parents and wife, Yvonne, Robert was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Glen Hiemstra and Charles Hardin; his three brothers, Marvin, John, Donald Baughman, and his four sisters, Vera Thompson, Veda Sams, Ruth Wilson and Mary Louise Sandy.
