VAN HORNE: Ava Jean "Jean" Fischer, 93, died Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the Keystone Nursing Care Center in Keystone following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be at 11 AM, Monday, September 18, 2017 at Salem United Methodist Church in Van Horne with Pastor Crystal Oberheu officiating. Visitation will be from 10 AM until service time at the church. To Honor her wishes the casket will remain closed at all times. Private Committal Services will be at Salem Cemetery in Van Horne. A Memorial Fund has been established. Jean was born July 4, 1924 in Cedar Rapids to Lloyd and Marguerite (Grimm) Maish and graduated from Wilson High School in Cedar Rapids. She then attended St. Luke's Nursing School. On October 5, 1946, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Fischer in Cedar Rapids. Jean served as a LPN from 1973 to 1997 at the Keystone Nursing Care Center in Keystone. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, loved Hawkeye Basketball; enjoyed Bingo and Crocheting and collecting Salt and Pepper Shakers. He greatest joy came from time spent with the grandkids. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Kenneth of Keystone; her son Michael (Sheryl) Fischer of Van Horne and her daughter, Rita (Dick) Humble of Blue Springs, MO; her grandchildren, Michelle (Tyler Jentz) Fischer, Joel Humble, and Alexandria Humble; and one brother. Jean was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, Mitchell Fischer in 2014.
