Marcella J. (Hurst) Rinderknecht, 82, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall with the Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment will be held at St. John Cemetery, near Newhall. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the church.

A memorial fund has been established for St. John Lutheran Church and the Newhall Public Library.

Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements.

Marcella was born Dec. 7, 1927, on the family farm north of Vinton, to Charles and Mary Esto (King) Hurst. She graduated from the Urbana High School in 1945 and then earned her teaching certificate at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught school in Zearing and Garrison, before her marriage to Robert H. Rinderknecht on May 28, 1950, at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall. After her marriage to Robert, she taught kindergarten at Central Lutheran School in Newhall.

Marcella was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, where she enjoyed membership in L.W.M.L. She was active in the founding of the Newhall Public Library where she had served as librarian, and was a member of the Friendship Club. Marcella truly enjoyed her family.

She is survived by her sons, David (Pat) Rinderknecht of Cedar Rapids, Doug (Dixie) Rinderknecht of Newhall, and Duane (Danielle) Rinderknecht of Van Horne; her daughter, Anne (Glenn) Manderscheid of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sisters, Lois Rinker of Vinton, Joan Lindahl of Vinton, and Mary (Richard) Schoonover of Vinton; and her sisters-in-law, Margaret Kreutner of Shellsburg, and Betty Rinderknecht of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert who died in 2008; and her brother, Richard Hurst.
