NEWHALL: Regina Kay (Little) Burkart, 65, died Friday, December 22, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton with Pastor Mike Andrew officiating. Interment will be held at the Palo Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. Regina was born August 16, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of George Elvin and LaVonne (Lint) Little. She graduated from Benton Community High School with the class of 1971 and attended Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee and Kirkwood Community College. On October 13, 2001, she was united in marriage to Michael Burkart at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Atkins. Regina worked as a medical assistant at Mercy Care South in Cedar Rapids. In her spare time, she enjoyed puzzles, music and spending time outdoors in her garden. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Regina is survived by her husband Michael of Newhall; her father George Little of Sherman, TX; her children, Chris (Jennifer) Burkart and their children Kayla and Chase of Mt. Vernon, Heather (Brian) Miller and their children Kaitlyn and Madison of Blairstown, Andrew (Chelsea) Burkart and their children Kasyn and Riley of Newhall, Brittany (Kevin) Shepherd and their children Dominick, Joseph and Lorelai of Newhall, Jacob (Mariah) Burkart and their children Jason, Elijah and Brody of Ft. Riley, KS, Andrew (Julie) Kemper and their children Ayva and Nathan of Cedar Rapids; her brother Gordon (Nancy) Little of Milwaukee; her niece Jennifer (Len) Montemurro and their children Leo and Lia of Kenosha, WI; her nephew Kevin Little and his son Keefe of Milwaukee; her brothers-in-law, Leonard (Connie) Burkart of Iowa City, Joe (Ann) Burkart of Crestview, FL and Richard (Sandy) Burkart of Swisher. She was preceded in death by her mother LaVonne; her first husband Franklin Burkart; her mother-in-law "Sue" Cain and her brother George Jr. in infancy.
