Venice Maude (Pardun) Fish, 96 of rural Shellsburg, died March 25, 2018.

Venice was born on November 14, 1921, the daughter of Walter Faye and Maude (Haymaker) Pardun. She married Myron on June 21, 1942, who was the love of her life for 75 years. Venice was raised in the Brandon area, and attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls, IA. She taught in one room school houses and in the Urbana and Shellsburg school districts. After marrying Myron, she worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in downtown Seattle, Washington, while Myron served in the US Marine Corps stationed in Kodak, Alaska. Following WW II, they returned to rural Shellsburg, where they farmed and raised their family. Venice was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, especially strawberries in the spring and tomatoes in the late summer. She looked forward to vacationing in Canada where Myron and she fished and enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation. Her personal faith and trust in Christ were central to her life. She longed for her family and friends to come to a saving knowledge of Christ. Throughout the years, she hosted kid’s Bible clubs in their home, taught children’s Bible classes and served in the churches they attended. She is preceded in death by her husband, Myron Fish, who died June 24, 2017, her parents, two brothers, Robert Lynn Pardun and Glenn “Buss” Pardun and four sisters, Icil Welsch, Myrl Pronk, Millie Albert and Nelda Peterson. Left to celebrate her life are her children Linda (Doug) Benedict and John (Laurie) Fish; five grandchildren, Tim (Deonne) Benedict (Seattle, WA), Adam (Andrea) Fish (Shellsburg), Andrew (Jennie) Fish (Shellsburg), Jacob (Samantha) Fish (Shellsburg) and Amanda (Jeremiah) Betron (Dallas, TX); and 11 great grandchildren: Blaine Benedict, Grace Fish, Sedah Betron, Allie Jo Fish, Nolan Fish, Hollis Fish, Faith Benedict, Eden Benedict, Tillie Fish, Anne Betron and Steele Fish. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the caring staff at the Virginia Gay Nursing Annex for their care and support of not only Venice, but of the family. Your nursing care, encouraging words and actions will always be remembered. The family also wishes to thank Unity Point Hospice for their care and support. In honoring Venice’s wishes, a private immediate family internment will take place at a later date.
