VINTON: Vicki Lee Abernathy (née Schellhase) of Sauk City, WI, formally of Vinton, IA, passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2018. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 28 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 East Sixth Street in Vinton, IA. Funeral will take place on Friday, June 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton with a luncheon to follow and interment at Urbana Cemetery.
The daughter of Bernard and Betty Jane Schellhase, Vicki was born on November 17, 1947 in Vinton, IA. She graduated from Urbana High School in 1966 and was married to Steve Abernathy on November 8, 1969. They had two children, Kirk and Mike.
Vicki had a gift for hospitality which showed in her work at Hilda’s Flower Shop, the Vinton Country Club and her own catering business. She was also very involved in the community, including Wesley United Methodist Church, Urbana American Legion Auxiliary, Early Arts Club, Bayview Club and Vinton Women’s Club.
Vicki is survived by her son, Mike (Ellen) Abernathy, and grandchildren, Finn and Maren, all of Prairie du Sac, WI. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Steve in 2006; son, Kirk in 1977; and brother, Ricky Schellhase in 1967.
In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund in honor of Vicki. The family would like to thank the many family and friends who’ve supported Vicki over the years as well as Wesley United Methodist Church, Maplewood of Sauk Prairie and GraceWay Church in Prairie du Sac, WI.
