Mae (Alpers) Wilhelmi, 87 of Atkins died Thursday, October 25, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Atkins with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7on Monday also at the church. Interment will be held at a later date at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Cemetery. A Memorial Fund has been established. Online condolences may be left at: www.phillipsfuneralhomes.com Mae Alpers was born on May 27, 1931 in Vinton to Henry and Mabel (McIntyre) Alpers. Mae graduated from Lincoln High School with the Class of 1950. She was united in marriage to Donald Wilhelmi on July 22, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton. She worked as a baker at Benton Community School District, Atkins Center from 1973 – 1993. Mae was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Atkins. She loved to play BINGO and enjoyed attending Senior Dining in Vinton for many years. The couple wintered in Arizona for twenty years, which she very much enjoyed. Mae is survived by her husband, Donald of Atkins; four children, Terry Wilhelmi of Thompson, Debra (Jeffrey) Thill of Britt, Kristi Wilhelmi of Atkins Steven (Kim) Wilhelmi of Spokane, Washington; one grandson, Conor Thill of Atkins; her sister, Jo (Orville) Schrage of Vinton and her brother, Russell Alpers of Vinton. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Roy, Lester, Harold and Stanley Alpers; three sisters, Lucille Cole, Ruth Lyons and Mildred Fowler.
