VINTON – Herbert Edwin Boots, 84, died Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion following a brief illness.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Private family inurnment will take place in Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg.
Herb was born February 16, 1934, in Iowa City, the son of Herbert Lorraine and Helen Mildred Goss Boots.
On June 17, 1953, Herb was united in marriage with Sandra L. Comried at Cedar Christian Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Herb worked at Coonrod Wrecker and Crane Service in Cedar Rapids for 25 years. In the early 1980s, he began a garbage hauling service in Vinton and the surrounding area. He retired in 1996 but never really stopped working.
In his free time, Herb enjoyed napping and watching John Wayne movies.
Herb is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sandra, of Vinton; one son, Russell (Marlene) Boots of Garrison; three daughters: Lynn (Lewis) Yoch and Debra Boots of Vinton and Lorraine Ament of Robins; two sisters: Dorothy Wolfe of Stanwood and Karen Dains of Cedar Rapids; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Kevin and Scott Boots; son-in-law Bob Ament; two brothers and two sisters.
A memorial fund has been established.
