Alvin M. Wubbena, 81, died Thursday, November 1, 2018, at the Vinton Lutheran Home.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Borleske officiating. Private family inurnment will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton, at a later date.
Alvin was born January 2, 1937, in Ackley, Iowa, the son of Fred and Sobena Dirksen Wubbena. He attended school in Ackley.
Alvin proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958.
On June 2, 1962, Alvin was united in marriage with Ella Frank at the American Lutheran Church in La Porte City.
The couple farmed in the Garrison area. Alvin also worked for IBP/Tyson Foods. He retired in 2008.
Alvin was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart and Farm Bureau. He enjoyed playing black jack at the casino, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren.
Alvin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ella, of Garrison; four children: Kevin (Beverly) Wubbena of Rogers, AR; Kim (Matt) Siebrands of Altoona, IA; Korey (Jillian) Wubbena of Oklahoma City, OK; and Kristy (Blake) Lorber of Bondurant; one brother, Meint (Lena) Wubbena of Ackley; two sisters: Martha Walters of Grundy Center and Lorraine Brahm of Milwaukee, WI; six grandchildren: Blythe, Brayden, Lucas, Ethan, Emma and Kennedy; and one great-grandchild, Easton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy Hansen; and one brother, Lawrence Wubbena.
A memorial fund has been established.
