VAN HORNE:
Tamie Matheny, age 38, passed away Friday November 9, 2018 from injuries received in a motor vehicle accident in Tama County.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 pm, Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the Benton Community High School Auditorium. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, Friday, November 16, 2018 also at the High School Auditorium. Interment will be held at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Newhall. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The bright person Tamie was, she loved pink and bling, the family encourages everyone to dress in similar attire at the memorial service.
Tamie was born on April 25, 1980 in Vinton, the daughter of Jeff and Michelle (Welter) Matheny. She graduated from Benton Community High School with the class of 1998. She graduated from S.E.C.C. in Burlington as a Paramedic and later obtained her Critical Care Paramedic certificate. She was currently working at Wolfe Eye Clinic in Hiawatha. Tamie was a Certified Firefighter II and a Certified Firefighter Instructor. She was known as a social butterfly and was very involved with FFA and 4-H that all of her children are involved in.
She was a member of the Van Horne First Responders and has served on various EMS organizations including North Benton Ambulance in Vinton.
Survivors include her children, Tate Kettler and his father Ben (Jessi) Kettler, Ashlyn and Caden Erger and their father Paul Erger; her parents Michelle and Jeff Matheny; her brother Matt (Stephanie) Matheny; her nephews Nate and Gabe Matheny; her adopted toddlers, Kenzi and Karlee; and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and her EMS family.
Tamie was preceded in death by her brother, Tony Olson; her paternal grandparents, Lyle and Gerri Matheny; and her maternal grandparents Vince and Ann Welter.
