Walter Edward Tuttle, 81, died Monday, November 12, 2018, in Vinton. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2018, at Van Steenhuyse-Russell Funeral Home in Vinton. Visitation will be held Monday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cox Cemetery, rural Urbana, with military rites by Iowa Military Funeral Honors and the Urbana American Legion Post 264. Walter was born in a log cabin near Urbana, Iowa, on October 25, 1937, the oldest of nine children, to Eddie and Hazel Burkhart Tuttle. He attended school in Urbana. From 1956 to 1960, Walter proudly served in the United States Navy. Walter worked as a machinist at Universal Engineering and also as a security guard. He was an avid gardener and had a life-long affection for animals. He is survived by his siblings: Richard (Marlene) Tuttle of Urbana; Leila Williams, Aaron (Ramona) Tuttle, Joanne (Marvin) Roster and John (Jul) Tuttle, all of Vinton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Viola Merchant; and a brother, James, at birth. A memorial fund has been established.
