Harlan Dale Selken, 73, of Vinton, formerly of Keystone, died Friday, June 14, 2019 at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, June 17, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton, with Rev. Stephen Preus officiating.  Interment will be held at the Keystone Cemetery with graveside military rites by the Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post #107 and Vinton AMVETS Post #218.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 PM, Sunday at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton.  A memorial fund has been established. 

Harlan was born on June 9, 1946 in Vinton to Emil and Edna (Stein) Selken. He graduated from Keystone High School with the class of 1964.  Harlan served his country in the National Guard from 1964 through 1970.

He was united in marriage to Dorothy Clarke on July 6, 1968 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hudson.  Harlan farmed for many years and later worked as an Ag “Engineer”.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton, the Keystone Turners for over 50 years, the Merkel-Bockholt American Legion Post #107, and the Vinton AMVETS Post #218.  Harlan loved to play and watch sports and especially enjoyed bowling and playing golf.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy; his son Brian Selken of Raytown, MO; daughter, Dawn (Chris) Gregg of Gwinn, MI; 6 grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany, BJ, and Cassandra Selken, and Jessica and Samantha Gregg; his brother Gerald (Margie) Selken of Keystone; his sister, Colleen (Bob) Schulte of Delhi; 2 brothers-in-law, Don Clarke of Maricopa, AZ, and Lyle Wulf of Hudson; and his sister-in-law Elaine Clarke of Waterloo.

Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter-in-law Alice Selken; stepfather, Elmer Struck, 2 brothers, Verlyn Selken and Verdeen (in infancy); 2 brothers-in-law and 1 sister-in-law.
