Dixie Merldeane (Kaiser) Turner, 87, of Vinton, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Mesa, Ariz., died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2010, at Windsor Manor in Vinton following a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, with Chaplain Joseph Kane of Mercy Hospice officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.
“Deane” was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Independence, Iowa, to Louis E. and Viola B. (Likens) Kaiser, and attended Big Grove Country School and Garrison High School. She attended Paris Beauty School of Cosmetology and graduated in 1958. She owned Deane’s Hair Fashions beauty salon in Cedar Rapids for 20 years. On Feb. 2, 1997, she was united in marriage to Walter Turner in Mesa, Ariz. The couple lived in Mesa until Walter’s death in 2004. Deane returned to Cedar Rapids and had lived the last few years at Windsor Manor in Vinton.
She is survived by her four grandchildren, Vicki Elvidge of Long Beach, Calif., James (Donna) Hackman of Solon, Robert Hackman of Marion and Michael Hackman of Dubuque; nine great-grandchildren, Joshua Hackman, Justin Hackman, Nichole Tharp, Ryan James Hackman, Kassidy Hackman, Amber Hackman, Brittany Hackman, Olivia Elvidge and Sydney Elvidge; three brothers, Louis Kaiser of Van Horne, Veryl (Eleanor) Kaiser of Walker and Beryl (Gay) Kaiser of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Barbara (Wayne) Merchant of Garrison and Kay (Ron) Seiler of Wiggins, Colo.; and her sister-in-law, Selma Kaiser of Vinton.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnie Rae Jones in 1995; her sister, Maxine Lockard; brother, Glenn Kaiser; and sister-in-law, Joanne Kaiser.
A memorial fund has been established.
