Jimmy Joe Kuhn, 34 of Mt. Auburn died very unexpectedly Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton.
A final dispatch will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday February 20, 2021 at the Urbana Fire Department with visitation to follow until 4 p.m.
"Boobies" as he was known by his family was born February 27, 1986 to Renee (Bailey) Bobzien and Merle Kuhn. Jimmy graduated with the class of 2004 from Washington High School in Vinton. Following high school Jimmy attended Kirkwood Community College with the push of his step-mother Teresa. He graduated from Kirkwood with a degree in Automotive Mechanics and worked at Rydell Chevrolet in Waterloo, Iowa. Jimmy loved his job and was a great mechanic. In his past time, Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman. He had a love for hunting, fishing and camping. As he told his friends and family "We may not hit a lot but we sure shoot a lot." Jimmy was a Volunteer Fireman for the Cedar-Mt. Auburn Fire Department and was very proud of his position on the Fire Department. His first major fire that he aided with was the McDowells building in Vinton, where he and his brother Brian worked together to help extinguish the flames that engulfed the block. This was an extremely proud moment for both of them. Jimmy knew many people and has numerous friends. He was described as a guy with an infectious smile and always the life of the party.
Jimmy is survived by his parents Merle Kuhn and Renee Bobzien of Vinton, girlfriend and daughter Amber and Zoey Faley of Mt. Auburn, grandparents Ruby Kuhn of Aitkin, MN and Donna Pickering of Vinton, sisters Kellie (Todd) Van Ree of Vinton and Amanda (Gary) Hamor of Oelwein; Brothers Mitch (Jen) Kuhn and Brian (Jill) Kuhn of Urbana, Larry (Donella) Kuhn and Josh (Alyssa) Bailey of Vinton. Nieces Lexi Van Ree, Autumn (Cody S.) and Elisabeth Kuhn of Vinton, Leah (Lane) Kuhn of Midway, Kaitlyn Kuhn of Urbana, and Addison Bailey of Vinton. Nephews Cody (Ali) Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Zach and Kaiden Kuhn of Urbana and Ryker Bailey of Vinton, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Jimmy is also survived by his sobriety dog and best friend Bow Tie Kuhn.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his step-mother Teresa Kuhn, grandparents Joe Kuhn and Lee Bailey, and a nephew Damion Hamor
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to family and the Cedar-Mt. Auburn Fire Department.
The family would like to send a thank you to the EMT's and friends that responded to his house on Tuesday, North Benton Ambulance crew and Tammy Madsen and the staff at Virginia Gay Hospital for their efforts to save his life.
