VAN HORNE: After a long and eventful life Albert Gottlieb Seboldt, 89, passed away at home, surrounded by his family on Friday, February 18, 2011.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m, Sunday, February 20th, 2011, in the Fellowship Hall of St Andrews Lutheran Church, 305 3rd Avenue, Van Horne, Iowa. Funeral services will also be held at St Andrews on Monday, February 21st, 2011 at 10:30 AM with a Flag Presentation conducted by Thomas J. Bevins American Legion Post #148 of Van Horne. Interment will be held at St. John Lutheran Cemetery near Newhall.
Albert was born on September 21, 1921 in Willow Springs, Missouri, the son of Henry and Anna Kaestner Seboldt. The family moved to Iowa in 1924 and farmed in the Van Horne area.
Albert served in the US Navy 1942-1945. While on duty in Miami, Florida he was married to Leone Miller on May 3, 1943. After the end of WW2 he returned to the Van Horne area where the couple farmed until retiring in 1986.
He was an active member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, served in various offices, and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by Leone, his wife of 67 years; his daughter, Judy Reese of Cedar Rapids, IA, son John, son Terry and wife June, all of Columbia, Missouri; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy, in infancy; son Thomas; grandson Jason; brothers Carl, in infancy, George (Dorothy), Ernest (Marcella) and Otto (Patsy); sisters Frieda Garbers (Mike), and Hulda Stueck (Lorenz).
A memorial fund has been established in his honor.
