Gayle Janss, 94, of Belle Plaine, IA passed away Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo, IA.
Gayle was born May 20, 1926 to Eldo and Idella (Gewecke) Meyer on the family farm in Luzerne. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School where Gayle met her high school sweetheart L.G. "Pete" Janss and married February 11, 1946 at the First Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine. Together they started out in Belle Plaine before renting farms and eventually purchasing their own farm South of Belle Plaine, after retiring they purchased a home in Belle Plaine. The couple were blessed with 3 children. While raising her children, Gayle worked with her husband on the farm and for Woodward's Clothing, Clears and Janss Locker. As her children grew older, she went to work for Amana Refrigeration in 1975 until retirement in 1991.
Gayle had a love for family. She was very social and devoted to her faith as a member of the First Lutheran Church, Belle Plaine.
She is survived by her children, Linda (Darwin) Vogt of Marengo, Tom (Barb) Janss of Keystone and Robin (Tom) Danker of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Dawn (Gary) Karsten, Kim (Kevin) Snitker, Melissa (Aaron) Balvin, Josh (Darci) Janss, Jessica (Larry) Franck, Austin (Michelle) Danker and Shalan (Kyle) Knapke; 23 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and sister, Delores Janss of Belle Plaine.
Gayle is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pete Janss (1998) and great-granddaughter, Tianna Purk.
Service is 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2021 at First Lutheran Church, Belle Plaine with Pastor Dean Duncan officiating. Service will also be livestreamed through the funeral home Facebook page. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Sunday, April 11th at the First Lutheran Church.
