Lehigh Acres, FL - Douglas E Johnston age 51 passed away unexpectedly due to complications of COVID19 on August 28, 2021 with his family by his side at Lee Memorial Hospital. Douglas was born on September 17, 1969 to his parents, Richard E. and Marcia R. Johnston (Dennis) at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Doug graduated from Vinton High School and took apprenticeship with the Local 125 Plumber and Pipefitters. He spent many years as a Construction Health and Safety Technician and as a Certified Industrial Trainer. He was married to Elon Popelka December 28, 1991 divorced in 2001. Later married Brenda Huntley on March 25, 2004.
Doug was a current board member of Ft. Myers Elks club #1288 and member of Moose lodge #1899.
In addition to his mother, Doug is survived by his wife Brenda, son Trevor E. (Kaitlin) Johnston, daughter Alana (Austin) Harold, sister Deanne (Kevin) Alexander, grandchildren Bryndle, Britleigh, Kinley and one on the way. Doug was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
A celebration of life will be held 2PM September 26, 2021 at the Local 125 Plumber and Pipefitters Apprentice Center 5101 J St SW Cedar Rapids, IA 52404.
