Obituaries : Richard “Dick” “Obie” Alan Oberreuter

Richard "Dick" "Obie" Alan Oberreuter, 82, of Cedar Rapids, IA, peacefully went to be with the Lord November 1, 2021, surrounded by family.

Richard was born July 10, 1939 to Aloysius and Agnes (Fitzgerald) Oberreuter in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Newhall High School in 1957. On February 27, 1960 Dick married Violet Vargason. Dick was in real estate for 36 years and farmed for 20 years near Watkins. He was also an auctioneer.

Dick enjoyed life, from his careers in farming and real estate to watching NASCAR, fishing at the Mississippi and teaching his grandchildren to clean the fish. Dick cherished time with family, raising his two boys and treasuring moments with his grandchildren. Most of all he just loved being home, spending time with his wife of 61 years, Vi.

He was a member of Prairie View Christian Church, Norway and a former member of the Masons in Belle Plaine.

Dick is survived by his wife, Violet; sons, Todd (Deb) Oberreuter and Thomas (Lori) Oberreuter; grandchildren, Brad, Dawn, Adam, Ryan, Alex; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Mike Mastain) Oberreuter; brother, Gary Oberreuter and many more family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service is 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Prairie View Christian Church, Norway with visitation one hour prior to the service. Private family burial will take place at St. Patricks and St. Pauls Cemetery, Watkins, IA.
