VINTON: Rev. E. L. Stuempfig, 100, died Sunday, March 20, 2011 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 25, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton, with Rev. Clarke E. Frederick officiating. Friends may call at the Phillips Family Center (605 Second Avenue) from 4 until 7 PM on Thursday and from 10:00 AM until service time at the church on Friday. Interment will be held at the Keystone Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family to be distributed to several of Pastor's favorite charitable organizations.

Ewald Leonard Stuempfig was born May 14, 1910 in Saginaw, MI to William and Eleanora (Ewald) Stuempfig. He graduated from Concordia Seminary - St. Louis, MO in 1933. On June 6, 1937 he was united in marriage to Ruth Brauer in Keystone. Pastor Stuempfig served Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elkader from 1934-1941; St. Johns / Trinity Lutheran Churches in Washington and Wellman from 1941-1944; St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Farmington, MI from 1941-1948; St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Bennett from 1948-1952; St. Johns Lutheran Church in Reinbeck from 1952-1957; Concordia Lutheran Church in Waterloo from 1957-1965; and St. Johns Lutheran Church in State Center from 1965-1975. After his retirement in 1975 he served vacancies at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, St. John's Lutheran Church in Victor, Trinity Lutheran Church in Dillon and St. John's Lutheran Church in Marengo. Pastor Stuempfig also served as the Lutheran Home Chaplain from 2000 - 2006. He was an avid gardener and loved traveling and his daily walks

He is survived by his wife Ruth of Vinton; his two sons, Paul (Sue) Stuempfig of Sun City West, Arizona, Dan (Maureen) Stuempfig of Chico, California; his three daughters, Eunice (Walter) Kirkpatrick of Big Timber, Montana, Lois Bonefas of Waterloo, Mary (John) Baughman of Palm Springs, California; his eight grandchildren, Mark (Kathleen) Stuempfig, Suzanne (Randy) Ballard, Joshua (Tisha) Kirkpatrick, Tim Kirkpatrick, Brandon Bonefas, Zachary (Becky) Bonefas, Shayna (Dany) Steumpfig-Vitale and Nathan Stuempfig; and his ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents Pastor Stuempfig was preceded in death by two brothers, Roland and Carl Stuempfig and his son-in-law, Thomas Bonefas.
