Obituaries : Ruth Ann Stratton

Ruth Ann Stratton, 78, of Belle Plaine, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022, at St. Luke's Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Ruth Ann was born Jan. 19, 1944, to Chester Ed and Eleanor (Brooks) Holderman in Dayton, Ohio. She attended Westerville High School, Westerville, Ohio. Following school, she worked as a nanny until she married Richard Stratton on Aug. 8, 1962. Together the couple moved to Belle Plaine to raise their family. Later, the went their separate ways. On Dec. 11, 1982, Ruth Ann married Jim Stratton.

Ruth Ann enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, singing and crafting. She was active in her faith as a member of Belle Plaine Christ United Methodist Church. Ruth Ann showed her compassion for others through her creation of Care Gives Corner, a support group for those who have been widowed.

Ruth Ann is survived by her children, Robert (Jeanne) Stratton of Cocoa, Fla., Robyn (Charles) Dauster of Lenexa, Kan., David (Josh) Stratton of Des Moines, Russell (Kellie) Stratton of Vinton and Kim (Stacy) Meeks of Hartwick; grandchildren, Blaine, Quinn, Jesse Annette, Charlie, Lindsey (Garrett) and Kurtis (Nikki); great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Coby, Tate, Zoi, Zia and Cain; and siblings, Bill (Marilyn) Holderman of Marion, Nancy (Bruce) Gansneder Keswick, Va., and Rosemary (Patricia Welch) Holderman of Eustis, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; husband, Richard; and sister, Barbra Schereck.

The service is 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at Christ United Methodist Church, Belle Plaine, Iowa. The service will also be livestreamed through the funeral service's Facebook page. Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
