Wilfred Adam Schinker, 95, a lifelong resident of Norway, IA passed away peacefully with family by his side at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, IA on February 15, 2022.
Wilfred was born on September 13, 1926 in Norway, IA, the son of Nicholas J. and Rose Josephine (Schulte) Schinker. He graduated from Norway High School and served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946 during WWII, stationed in the Hawaiian Islands. He was united in marriage to Darlene Marie Lane on June 9, 1949, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Norway. They were married 71 years.
Wilfred worked for Wenkstern Hasley Crystal Plant, Amana Refrigeration, Iowa Manufacturing, and drove a school bus for the Norway schools. He owned Norway Maytag Sales and Service and delivered LP gas in the Norway area.
He was a member of VFW Post 788, Norway American Legion Post 234, the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Order of Foresters for 75 years.
Over the years he traveled with Darlene across the US, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Canada, with many visits to Colorado to see the grandchildren.
Wilfred is survived and lovingly remembered by his daughter, Cynthia (Mike) Isbell of Colorado; sons, Lynn, Douglas and Lee of Norway; grandsons, Johnathan (Aarika) Isbell and Nicholas Isbell; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Darlene (2020); brothers, Arnold, Norbert, Charles, Edmund, Arthur and David; sister, Mary (Donald) Ament.
Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Norway with Fr. Craig Steimel officiating. Private family burial will take place at St. Michael's Cemetery in Norway.
Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, February 22nd at the church. Please be mindful of everyone's safety and wear a mask. A memorial fund will be established in Wilfred's name. Online condolences can be sent to www.neuhausfuneralservice.com
