David Kenneth Hoff, 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Jan. 2, 2022, at Falls Run Nursing Home in Fredericksburg, Va.

His health was declining in the past five years, reduced to walking with canes, to walkers to being bed ridden for the last months. He moved to Medford, Ore., in 2018 and to Virginia in 2021.

David was born to Archie and Vesper Claypool Hoff on July 3, 1937. He graduated from Vinton-Shellsburg High School in 1956. Married Patricia Roll in November 1955. David was a U.S. Navy veteran who served as a boilerman on a Navy Destroyer escort out of Newport, R.I., for two years, and four years in the Navy Reserves.

David worked for various companies as an electrician and machinist, plus had his own business as an appliance repairman for many years.

He was an Eagle Scout and continued in Scouts for many years, obtaining Wood Badge and Silver Beaver status.

He served on the Urbana, Iowa Lions Club, Urbana city council, Fire Department and Ambulance service.

David was an avid guitar player, he sang and played Western music with a band, friends and family. He played the harmonica, steel guitar, banjo and dobro.

He decided to pursue a new career and studied at Kirkwood Community College to be an Orthopedic Physicians Assistant (OPA), he started his new career in Muscatine, Iowa, working there and in Rock Island, Ill., until his retirement.

In his free time, he loved to do woodworking, fishing and being outdoors in nature.

David and Patricia had seven children, William, Lora (David Spencer), Steven (Victoria), Robert, Michael (Soudabeh), Danny and Randy Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Doug, Paul, Joel, Sam and Barbara; and one grandson, Timothy.

He is survived by his sister, Della Brehm; his children; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren' and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 3, at the Urbana American Legion Hall, 204 Wood St., Urbana, IA 52345.
