Arlene Cook, 91, died at her home Thursday, September 1, 2022.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home, Vinton. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Garrett Cemetery, Delta, at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Arlene is survived by her son, Brian (Penny) Cook of Atkins; daughters: Lesia (Sherman) Ubben of Traer and Susan Davis (Frank) of Newhall; two stepchildren: Rick (Nancy) Capps of Washington and Brenda (Dan) Gonnerman of Florissant, MO; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husbands: Frederick Cook and Earl Capps; and brother, Arlo Stanley.

Arlene was born on December 11, 1930 in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Merle and Ida (Chapman) Stanley. She attended Rose Hill Country School and graduated from Farson High School in 1948. On May 16, 1959, Arlene married Frederick Cook in Cambridge, IL. He preceded her in death October 22, 1997. Arlene then married Earl Capps March 7, 1999. He preceded her in death August 7, 2003. Early in her working days, Arlene had numerous jobs, some of which included Rockwell Collins, Ced-Rel Supper Club, owned Cook's Table in Newhall, was a telephone operator and worked at the courthouse in Ottumwa. Arlene eventually pursued her passion and attended Ottumwa Beauty Academy graduating in 1959. She worked as a beautician in Marion, opened her own shop in Atkins and then Newhall. After 51 years in the business, Arlene finally retired at 80 years young.

In her leisure time, Arlene enjoyed being on a bowling league, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, raising birds and loving on her cats and dogs. Arlene was a member of the National Hairdresser's Association.

A memorial fund has been established.
