Obituaries : Dwyn Antoinette Garwood

Surrounded by her loving family, Dwyn Antoinette Garwood, 90, of Vinton, passed away at her residence on Monday, October 10, 2022. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Vinton with Father Jim Brokman as Celebrant. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the church from 8:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Dwyn is survived by her four sons: Tom (Amy) Garwood, Gary (Mona) Garwood, Charles (Connie) Garwood all of Vinton and Scott (LeAnn) Garwood of Dysart; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers: Clinton and John Roberts of MI; and two sisters-in-law: Muriel and Susie Roberts of MI.

Preceding Dwyn in death was her husband of 40 years, Bert; two brothers: Steve and Dave Roberts; three sisters: Joyce Roberts Wadman, Anna Roberts Valley and Linda Roberts Orcutt.

Dwyn was born April 15, 1932 at Rockland, MI, the daughter of Thomas and Ottilia (Trinko) Roberts. She was a graduate of Rockland High School. On November 21, 1952 she was united in marriage to Albert "Bert" Garwood in El Paso, TX. Bert preceded her in death in 1993. Dwyn's employment outside the home included being a bookkeeper for JC Penney, State Bank of Vinton and Benton County Secondary Roads.

Dwyn loved living. And she did it every day with purpose. She was constantly doing, going and being teased for being the "Energizer Bunny" as she was never quite still. No grass ever grew under her feet and her busyness was always fruitful and benefited many. She loved a good tease in fun and would crinkle her nose when she giggled. She also loved her UP family and spent many years summering there to spend time with them and her many friends. She loved to read, play cribbage, crochet, eating out, spending time with her friends, going to the casino and going for walks with Marge. She loved spending time with her Red Hat ladies' group in Iowa and her Henry's "Never" Inn Margarita Senoritas in Michigan.

But her greatest joy came from spending time with her four boys and families at home. She loved the family that grew from them, gaining four daughters-in-law, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who helped expand her love and fill her days with purpose and participation in their lives.

She prayed the rosary daily and did so, so devoutly, we believe she was praying us all to heaven. She had rosaries in every coat pocket, purse and room in her house. How fitting that she passed in the month of our Lady of the Rosary. Dwyn loved her faith and was an example for us all to follow. We are blessed she led the way.
