Obituaries : Mary Evelyn Elsner Claypool

Mary Evelyn Elsner Claypool, 94 of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, November 14, 2022 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a short illness. Services: 11 a.m., Saturday at Teahen Funeral Home by Penny Ackerman. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday after 10 a.m. at Teahen Funeral Home.

Mary is survived by her children, Renita Herman and Terry Claypool both of Cedar Rapids and Colleen Claypool (Terry) Graveman of Newhall; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister in-law, Laurine DeWitte and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Ronald in 2019; daughter, Judith Trimble; and brother, Joseph (Betty) Elsner.

Mary was born on February 1, 1928 in Anamosa, daughter of Joseph and Florence Watters Elsner. She graduated in 1942 from Mt. Mercy High School, Cedar Rapids. Mary married Ronald Claypool on December 6, 1958 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. She worked for the Wilson/Farmstead Packing Company for many years, retiring in 1985. Mary was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Mary enjoyed working word puzzles, doing cross stitch, watching games shows, westerns and Hallmark movies on television. She loved family times and will be missed.

The family would like to thank the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, especially Casey, Laurie and Laura; the Mercy Medical Center; and the Vinton Lutheran Home, for the excellent care they gave to Mary.
