Obituaries : Laura Jeanne Wood

Laura Jeanne Wood, 73, died peacefully Saturday, December 31, 2022 at the Vinton Lutheran Home.  Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 4 at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home, Vinton with Pastor Brian Reeves officiating.  Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

Laura is survived by her husband, Loren of Vinton; three sons: Loren (Connie) of Cedar Rapids, Les (Amy) of Urbana and Levi (Heidi) of North Liberty; eight grandchildren: Payton, Jordan, Sloan, Landon, Lexie, Josiah, Keller and Emerson; one brother, Bob Bantz of East Farmington, WI; two sisters: Carol (Dale)Larimer of Cedar Rapids and Kathy (David) Demulling of Osceola, WI; brother-in-law, Marlyn Mayhew of Vinton; and numerous other family members.

Preceding Laura in death were her parents; sister, Shirley Mayhew; sister, Bette (Bryson) Clymer; brother, Jack (Carol)Bantz; sister-in-law, Irene Bantz.

Laura was born in Vinton May 21, 1949, the daughter of Franklin "Gale" and Maxine (Kelley) Bantz.  She graduatedfrom Washington High School in 1967.  She then attended Paris Academy of Beauty School in Cedar Rapids, graduating in 1968.  Laura's career as a beautician and then owner of Laura's Beauty Salon spanned a period of over 40 years.  On May 10, 1968, Laura and Loren eloped to Mt. Carroll, IL, where they were united in marriage.  

In her early years Laura enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing and working with stained glass.  Later in life she found peace in being with Loren and her pets while at home.

A memorial fund has been established.
