Surrounded by her loving family, Lainey Michelle Robertson, 15, passed away peacefully Monday, January 30, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, after battling a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 3 at the Oak Grove Church, Shellsburg, with Pastor Matt Magee officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, February 2. Private burial will be held. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Lainey's family.

Lainey was born March 1, 2007 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Bryan and Wendi (Rogers) Robertson. She was currently a freshman at Kennedy High School, Cedar Rapids.

Bowling, swimming, going to school and riding the bus to get there, time on her iPad and reading books with her siblings were some of Lainey's favorites. But Lainey's best love of all was her life and the people that were a part of it. Lainey is now up in Heaven asking everyone "how are yooouu" and "do you have a watch?"

Lainey is survived by her mother and stepfather, Wendi (Duane) Frye; father and stepmother, Bryan (Ashley) Robertson; brother, Aiden Frye; sisters: Lacey Durgin and Adelyn, Brylea and Avery Robertson; grandparents: Dean (LuAnn) Robertson, Tony (Sharon) Rogers, Richard Frye and Laurie Boone; and many other family members and friends.

LM February 1, 2023, 10:36 am For Lainey's family, please accept my sincere wishes that you will be comforted by wonderful memories of your beautiful daughter. She was a light in our world at Kennedy and we will miss her greatly.
KF February 1, 2023, 10:37 pm Keenan and his classmates will Miss Lainey’s smile in their classroom. As a parent, my heart aches for you. You are all in our hearts and prayers.
We didn’t choose to have special kids, however, no one else understands how these kids are so magical, full of life and love.
I know Lainey led a life where she spread joy to a world that sometimes lacks that joy and light
Her memory and light will live on through all who knew her.
Sincerely, Kristin Flood (Keenan’s Mom)
