Obituaries : Robert J. “Bob” Jones

Robert J. "Bob" Jones, age 89, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, February 5, 2023, in Mission, Texas.

Celebration of life services will be held at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023. The family will receive friends one hour before the service and during a luncheon following the service. Interment with military honors will take place at the Hillcrest Cemetery following the luncheon. A general memorial has been established. Bob was born October 17, 1933, in Brighton, Iowa, the son of Dale Wesley and Mildred Ferne (Dunbar) Jones. He graduated from Brighton High School in 1952. Bob was united in marriage to Shirley A. Burlingame on July 10, 1993, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Bob served honorably in the United States Army from 1954 until 1956.

Bob lived in Brighton, Iowa, before moving to Washington, Iowa, in 1993. He enjoyed wintering in Mission, Texas, since 1995. He worked for Glen Mullikin driving bulk gas truck, and later Glen Mullikin Fertilizer Company. Bob then went into partnership forming Brighton Ag. He was also a Kent Feed dealer for many years. Bob belonged to the Brighton American Legion. He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball for many years following high school.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Washington, Iowa; daughter, Pamela Jones Edwards and husband Teryl of Dysart, Iowa; son, Doug Jones and wife Stacey of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; stepdaughter, Mindy Roberts of Overland Park, Kansas; stepson, Jon Burlingame of Washington, Iowa; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carolyn Fay Eyestone; and one stepgreat-grandson.
