Obituaries : Robert “Bob” Sand

Robert "Bob" Sand, 85, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Vinton, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 24, 2023.

The visitation will be Tuesday, March 28th from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) in Vinton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 29 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton, with Rev. Jim Brokman as Celebrant. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.

Bob was born on May 22, 1937, the son of Joe and Fannie (Ferguson) Sand. He graduated from Washington High School in Vinton, with the class of 1955. Bob served his Country in the Iowa National Guard from 1958 through 1968. On February 12, 1977, he was united in marriage to Sharon Luloff, in Cedar Rapids. Bob worked for AT&T, retiring in 1987 after 30 years of service. He founded Sand Communications in 1987 and continued to work in telecommunications until 1997. He also worked for Phillips Funeral Home for 5 years.

Bob was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Pius Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed membership in the Cedar Rapids Eagle's club and was an avid euchre player. He was a dedicated Iowa Hawkeye fan. Bob dearly loved camping and fishing with his family and friends, throughout his life, as well as walks with his beloved dog Fu.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sharon; his children, Brad Sand of Arkansas, Cyndi (Pat) Buehner of Cedar Rapids, Becky (John) Harper of New Mexico, Tami (Marlin) Elkin of Cedar Rapids; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and his brother, Raymond Sand of Chicago, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tarey Sand.
