Obituaries : Dennis James Walther

Dennis James Walther, 79, of Belle Plaine, IA passed away March 24, 2023 at his home.

Dennis was born November 4, 1943 to Harold and Laura (Kendall) Walther in Iowa City, IA. Growing up in West Liberty, IA, Dennis graduated from West Liberty High School. Following school, he joined the United States Navy. Upon returning from his service, he moved to Davenport where he worked in auto parts sales and for the City of Savannah. Later Dennis went to college and earned his certificate as a (ASE) Master Technician Mechanic. Using his training he became a diesel mechanic. Dennis moved several times before settling in Belle Plaine.

Dennis enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and tinkering with about anything. Most of all he loved being with his children, grandchildren, and dog.

Dennis was a member of the Belle Plaine American Legion and Palisades Long Rifles.

He is survived by his children, Becky Walther of Cedar Rapids, Lucy (Dan) Knapp of Clinton; grandchildren, Emily, Sydney, and Andrew; great-grandchildren, Josie, Calladee, Erik, and Clyde; brother, Larry (Kris) Walther; dog, Rebok; cat, Lady; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Dennis is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Darlene Campbell, and Jane Grell.

A private service will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. A later celebration of life will take place for friends and additional family members. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences can be sent to www.neuhausfuneralservice.com
