Mary E. Foust, 83, of Omaha, Nebraska passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011. Mary, former resident of Garrison, Iowa and Waterloo, Iowa moved to the Omaha area to be near family in 2007.
Mary Poulter was born July 13, 1927 to Dr. Robert William Poulter and Effie Mae Poulter (Ganoe) in Jefferson County, Iowa. She married Delwyn (Del) Wayne Foust in 1954, and they made their home in the cities of Waterloo and Garrison, Iowa. Following Del’s death in 2005, Mary lived in Vinton, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska.
Mary had two people-oriented careers, first working as a camp director and administrative council member for the Girl Scouts of America at camps located in Iowa and Missouri, and then as a teacher in the 3rd and 4th Grades in LaPorte City, IA.
She was an active member of Garrison United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Garrison Fire Department Auxiliary, and the American Legion. Volunteerism was important to Mary and she spent many hours at nursing homes, elementary schools, Garrison Public Library and the Garrison Fire Department. Mary was a graduate of the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa, and was an avid Hawkeye fan. Mary’s passion to family lives through the work she shared in organizing family reunions that continue today.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Delwyn. She is survived by her two sons: Russell and wife Debra, Blair, Nebraska; son David, of Portage, Michigan and grandchildren Hannah of Durham, New Hampshire, Charles of Sioux City, Iowa and Kevin of Blair, Nebraska
Visitation with the family will be Friday, May 13, from 6:00-8:00pm at the Phillips Family Center, 605 2nd Ave., in Vinton, Iowa. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 14, at 10:00am at the United Methodist Church, 105 N. Sycamore Ave., in Garrison, Iowa, with Rev. Lanette Sue Van officiating
