Obituaries : James “Jim” “Pappy” Osborn

Surrounded by his loving family, James "Jim" "Pappy" Osborn, Jr., 63, died Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at his home. There will be no services. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.

Jim was born September 9, 1959 in Cedar Rapids, the son of James and Kaye (Wright) Osborn Sr. He attended school in Toddville and Alburnett. He was self-employed as a produce farmer. Jim and Tamra became friends when he was 9 and she was 6. Even though the friendship started with him throwing rocks at her, it blossomed and they became life partners May 24, 1980.

Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, mushroom hunting, hosting fish fries, hog roasts and sushi/eggroll nights. He also had a special place in his heart for his family-especially his grand and great-grandchildren. He took great pride in "teaching" them and passing on cherished family traditions.

Jim is survived by his wife of 43 years, Tamra; four sons: James (Bre) Osborn III, Joshua Osborn, Troy (Stephanie) Randall and Jon (Laurie) Osborn; mother, Kaye Hanzlik; four sisters; one brother; twenty-four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his fathers: James Osborn Sr. and Sonny Hanzlik; and grandchildren: Triston, Hunter, Quentin, Zoey, Jacob and Maxine.

A memorial fund has been established.
