James "Jim" Schmuecker, 84, of Vinton, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, following a lengthy illness. Private graveside services will be held. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Jim and his family.
Jim was born April 20, 1939, in Watkins, the son of Alfred and Loretta (Brecht) Schmuecker. He was a graduate of Norway High School. Jim proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958-1960. After an 18-year courtship, Jim was united in marriage to Marlias Woods on February 15, 2023 at the Benton County Courthouse. Jim's most recent employment was with King Material.
Jim was well known for his stock car racing career where he earned several championship trophies. He also enjoyed watching Westerns and going to the casino.
Jim will be fondly remembered by his wife, Marlias; daughter, Roberta (Ken) Page; son, Robert (Gabriel Dedrick) Schmuecker; five grandchildren: Johnnie Tharp, Alex Schmuecker, Stormie Lokenvitz, Owen Harris Schmuecker, and Ralph (Kelly) Boddicker; two great-grandchildren: Elliot and Olivia Boddicker; two stepsons: Lowell (Gail Rasso) Marovec and Brett (Amber Buchtela) Marovec; two step-grandsons: Jesse and Tony Marovec; one brother, Ed (Sally) Schmuecker; and one sister, Virginia (Don) Becker.
Preceding Jim in death were his parents; two sisters: Kathryn Byrd and Colleen Callan; and one brother, Melvin Schmuecker.
A memorial fund has been established.
