URBANA: William "Lloyd" Hepker, 81 , died Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at West Village Care Center in Independence.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 4, 2011 at 10:00 am at Urbana Christian Church in Urbana with Pastor Tom Felts officiating. The casket will not be present at the church service. Interment will be at the Urbana Cemetery with Military Rites by the Walter J. Meyocks American Legion Post #264 of Urbana. Visitation and viewing will be held Friday, June 3rd from 4 to 7 pm at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. 6th St in Vinton.

Lloyd was born November 30, 1929 to Walter and Faye (Cumberland) Hepker in Urbana. On March 11, 1951 he was united in marriage to Marilyn Reiss at the Urbana Christian Church in Urbana. Lloyd served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from October 1951 to October 1953 and was stationed in Germany with the 2nd Platoon of Company "C"-122nd Armored Ordinance Maintenance Batallion, 3rd Armored Division.

After returning home, Lloyd was engaged in farming until 1961 when he and his wife moved to town. He then operated Lloyd's Conoco Station in Urbana. In 1963, he went to work at Iowa Manufacturing Company in Cedar Rapids until 1984 when he went to work for Urbana Community School as a custodian. He retired in 1994 from the Urbana-Center Point Middle School.

Lloyd was a member of the Urbana Fire Department for twenty-five years and was also a member of the Walter J. Meyocks American Legion Post #264 of Urbana.

Lloyd enjoyed helping his sons with projects, always willing to give a helping hand. He loved spending time with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, especially going on trips with the card club.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn; two sons and daughters-in-law, Marty and Pam Hepker, and Scott and Mary Hepker all of Urbana; five grandchildren, Amy, Andy, Charles, Meghan and Matthew Hepker; and five great-grandchildren, Haley, Bryce, Lauren, Ryan and Gabriel Hepker. He is also survived by two sisters, Maxine Relf of Vinton and Delores Winn of Walker; and one brother, Jim Hepker of Kansas City, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his son, Craig Eugene Hepker in infancy; five sisters, Dora Hepker, Dorothy Schmitz, Norma Cook, Geraldine Frey, and Mary Helen Zieser, and six brothers, Robert, Leonard, Vern, Herman, Ralph and Theron.

Memorials cay be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, the Urbana Fire Department or the Walter J. Meyocks American Legion Post #264, or to the organization of the donor's choice.
