Obituaries : Paul Thomas “Tom” Gallagher

Paul Thomas "Tom" Gallagher, 72, of La Porte City, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Thursday, November 9, 2023.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home, Vinton, with Chaplain Brian Reeves officiating.  Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.  Burial with full military rites will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton.

Tom was born August 2, 1951, in Pittsburgh, PA.  Upon graduation from high school, Tom proudly served in the United States Navy.  On July 24, 1976, he was united in marriage to Leah Ackman at Hickory Hills Park, Dysart.  He was employed at the John Deere Foundry in Waterloo, drove semi during layoff, and then returned to John Deere until retirement.

When he wasn't watching his grandkids play softball or just spending time with them, Tom enjoyed yardwork, nature, delivering Meals on Wheels, and "a cold PBR".

Tom is survived by his wife of 47 years, Leah; daughter, Nikki Gallagher; son, Paul Gallagher; granddaughters: Katlyn, Kortney, and Rachel; grandsons: Caleb, and Kaleb; one great-grandchild on the way; sister, Paula (Ralph); brother, Jack; and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Preceding Tom in death was his son, Denis Gallagher.

A memorial fund has been established.
