Joan Lindahl, 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Virginia Gay Hospital, Vinton. Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 10th, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Vinton, with Pastor Anne Williams as officiant. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday at the church. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is caring for Joan's family.

Joan was born June 20, 1931, in rural Vinton, the daughter of Charles and Mary Esto (King) Hurst. She was a graduate of Urbana High School. On March 5, 1950, Joan was united in marriage to Harold Lindahl at her parent's farm in rural Urbana. She was a bank teller for several years, employed as a bookkeeper for Froning Elevator, Garrison, and worked alongside her husband on the farm.

While in high school, Joan played basketball, and that led to her love of watching basketball, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. She was also a 4-H leader, bowled, played cards, enjoyed going to Pizza Ranch, made the best homemade chocolate chip cookies, and loved the time spent with all of her grandchildren. Joan was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she participated in the Miriam Circle, Swedish Smorgasbord, fall festival, and church quilting group

Left to cherish Joan's memory are her son, John (Julie) Lindahl of Vinton; daughter, Barb (Kevin) Robinson of Blairstown; eight grandchildren: Steve (Nicole) Wenner, Dan Wenner, Greg (Lindsey) Wenner, Jenae (Tim) Manos, Joye (Coleman) Moore, Jaimie (Jerrad) Burian, Rhea (Brian) Melhus and Lucas Robinson; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Bob Wenner of Marshalltown; and two sisters: Lois Rinker and Mary Schoonover of Vinton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 57 years, Harold; two daughters: Doris Wenner and Dorothy Lindahl; sister, Marcella (Robert) Rinderknecht; brother, Richard Hurst; great-great-grandson, Zeke; brothers-in-law: Russ Rinker, Richard Schoonover, Alvin (Nola) Lindahl, and Herb (Mary Ann) Lindahl.
