Following a prolonged illness, Linda Cole, 78, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Graveside service and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Van Steenhuyse-Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.

Linda was born September 22, 1945, in Vinton, the only child of Lloyd "Tag" and Geraldine "Jeri" (Bassett) Lyons.

She graduated from Vinton High School and then attended Hawkeye Institute of Technology where she received her LPN and RN degrees.

In 1963, Linda was united in marriage to Allen Shockley, and to this union, they had 2 daughters, Susie and Amy. The couple later divorced. On May 10, 1986, Linda was united in marriage to the love of her life, Edward Cole. Together they loved to spend time with their grandchildren, golf, travel, run Chapman's Fun World and Eddie Cole's Jump Shot. Their marriage was one of a kind; full of love, laughter and fun. Eddie preceded Linda in death on May 23, 2011.

Linda's nursing career led her to positions at the Vinton Lutheran Home, Methwick Nursing Home and Mercy Hospital. She was a very devoted caregiver to many throughout her lifetime, including her husband, Eddie. Linda had many "joys" in life such as spending time with her grandchildren, attending her grandchildren's events, cooking and baking for the holidays, especially Christmas, and traveling. Linda will be deeply missed for her unconditional love, fun-loving spirit and spunk.

Left to cherish Linda's memory are her daughters: Susan "Susie" (Michael Dusil) Shockley, and Amy Lynch; grandson, Deckar Lynch; and granddaughters: Megan (Gaetano) Tarantino, Lauren Konchar, Mallory (Spencer) Gritsch, and Gwen Konchar.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eddie; and son-in-law, Christopher Lynch.

A memorial fund has been established. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hiawatha Care Center, Peter & Rae Jacobs. Online condolences for the family may be left at www.teahenfuneralhome.com

RB January 16, 2024, 1:21 pm To Linda's family - your mom's name comes up many times in our 1963 class coffees each month. We knew after she had too quit coming each coffee that her health was going, and not where we all wanted it to go. Special friend for a really long time. Classmate- Rosemary
