Obituaries : Eleanor Mae Grieder

Eleanor Mae Grieder, 87, of Shellsburg, IA passed away January 16, 2024 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA. 

Eleanor was born May 27, 1936 to Carroll and Esther (Tesar) Miller in Belle Plaine. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School, class of 1954.  Eleanor married her high school sweetheart Richard Grieder on June 26, 1955 at Christ United Methodist Church in Belle Plaine. Together they farmed for a short time in rural Belle Plaine, before moving to a larger farm in Shellsburg, IA. They worked the farm side-by-side, with Eleanor becoming a skilled combine driver. She also worked at the Palo Mini Mart for 23 years, followed by Shellsburg Quick Stop for 5 years. 

Eleanor enjoyed puzzles and was an avid reader. She kept her family on their toes with her wise cracks and sense of humor. Eleanor was a member of Parkers Grove Church in Shellsburg where she played the organ for over 15 years. 

She is survived by her husband of 68 years; Richard; children, Jeff (Leslie) Grieder of Boise, ID, Paul (Cheri) Grieder of Cedar Rapids, Andy (Jesse) Grieder of Cedar Rapids; 7 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Virginia "Sis" (Carl) Wagner of Chelesa; brother-in-law, Nathan "Tootsie" (Sharon) Grieder of Belle Plaine. 

Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael; and brother-in-law, Howard (Hila) Grieder.

Memorial service is 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 19, 2024 at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service with Celebration of Life to follow at the funeral home.
