Ronald "Ron" Dew, 78, of rural La Porte City, died Saturday, February 17, 2024 at his home in the care of his family and Cedar Valley Hospice. He was born July 15, 1945, in Grundy Center, Iowa. Ronald was the son of LeRoy and Nadine (Norris) Dew. He graduated from Hudson High School and Served in the Army Reserves. Ronald married Shirley Ann Knipp in 1970, they were later divorced. Ronald owned and operated Ron's Construction in La Porte City for 30 years, specializing in new home building and re-modeling. Ronald was a skilled brick mason and took pride in his construction work. He loved working on projects. He had many friends that he made through work. When he wasn't working, he enjoyed an occasional day on a lake with a fishing pole, watching movies, and in recent years playing a few games online with friends. Ronald enjoyed working in his vegetable garden and grew popcorn that he regularly enjoyed eating. Growing up, his siblings remember with fondness how he loved playfully teasing and playing tricks on them and say he never really grew out of it.

Ronald is survived by his daughters: Michelle (Jason) Martin and Jennifer (Scott) Reed both of La Porte City; his sons: Jonathon (Shelli) Dew of Mooresville, NC and David (Melissa) Dew of Statesville, NC; 6 grandchildren: Jay, Collin (Julia), Cretia, Haley, Kimberlee (Aaron) and Zakary and 7 great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Skyler, Lilliah, Ella, Roman, Royalty and Remiece. Sisters: Joanne Potter of Brooklyn Park, MN, Janice Heltibridle of Reinbeck, IA, and Janeen (Steve) Ralston of Grundy Center, IA; and brothers: Roland (Connie) Dew of Grundy Center, IA, and Jerald Dew of Cedar Rapids, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife; brother-in-law (Michael Potter) and a sister in infancy.

A funeral will be held at 10:30AM Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Locke in La Porte City (606 East Main Street): Followed by burial at Maple Hill Cemetary in Gladbrook. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Friday, February 23, 2024 also at Locke in La Porte City. Memorials may be directed to the family.
