Levina Houtzager

SHELLSBURG:  Levina Houtzager, 90 of Shellsburg died Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Rock Ridge Residential Care Center in Shellsburg.  Private Graveside Services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Shellsburg.  The Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM, Thursday, June 15, 2011 at Phillips Family Center, 605 Second Avenue in Vinton.  In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. 

     Levina Neeltje de-Hamer was born December 25, 1920 at Zeeland, Holland to Gillis and Neeltje (de-Boer) de-Hamer.  She was united in marriage to Louis Houtzager on January 24, 1941 in Delft, Holland.

     Levina loved music, she and her husband performed together at area nursing homes, including Rock Ridge and at ballrooms in Donna, Texas where they wintered for thirteen years.  Levina played the piano and Louis would play the drums and sing.  In her leisure Levina also enjoyed her flowers and spending time outside.

     She is survived by her three daughters, Wilma (Tom) Busenbark of Hackensack, MN, Nellie (Tom) Saunders of Cedar Rapids and Louise (Bill) Bruce of Shellsburg; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

     Levina was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Louis on June 16, 2006, her grandson, Craig, her granddaughter, Carla Beatty, her son-in-law, Don Fiebelkorn and her three brothers.
