James Warren Hyde, 94 of Vinton, died on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at his home in Vinton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 1, 2024, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Vinton with Rev. Brian Channel officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery with graveside flag presentation by U.S. Air Force Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until service time on Monday, also at the church.

Jim was born on January 12, 1930, in Hannibal, MO, the son of Carlton and Viola (Feller) Hyde. Jim graduated from Bowling Green High School and attended Western Kentucky University. He joined the United States Air Force and served from 1951 through 1955 during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Airman 1st Class. Jim met a pretty young lady who was teaching in Vinton, and after their courtship, he married Joan Hennies on August 4, 1957, in Donnellson, IA.

Jim and Joan owned and operated Fellers Variety Store in Vinton until the store closed in 1985. He worked as a bus driver for the Braille School, and also as a night attendant. He also worked as a painter, prior to retirement. Jim was a member of the Vinton Kiwanis Club, an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church, and a 64 year member of the Geo G. Luckey Post #57 in Vinton. He was also a devoted runner and participated in several marathons. He had a passion for fishing and wet a line whenever he could.

Jim is survived by his wife, Joan; daughter Dianne (Rick) Reiland of Eagle Grove; son Scott Hyde of Vinton; 5 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Russell Hyde, and sister Dottie Hicks.
