June Ann Schmidt, 69, of Cedar Rapids passed away on March 22, 2024, at Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Memorial Service: 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 20, 2024, at New Covenant Bible Church in Cedar Rapids.

June was born on August 20, 1954, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd and Frances (Bangham) Peters of Vinton, IA.

She received her Musical Education Degree from Luther College and Master of Arts Degree in Education from Ashford University. She was united in marriage to Robert Schmidt on August 7, 1976, in Vinton, Iowa. They shared over 48 years of marriage. June was a Choral Music Director for 40 years. Over the years she taught students at Shellsburg, IA; Benton Community High School; Linn-Mar High School. After her retirement from teaching in 2016, she acted as Cares Ministry Director at New Covenant Bible Church.

June was a remarkable woman, who loved deeply, and gave her time selflessly. She loved Jesus and lived her life as a reflection of His perfect love for her. Her greatest joys were mentoring her students and kissing her family (and leaving red lipstick prints on their cheeks.) She had a photographic memory for people's names and for Iowa sports stats. She will be greatly missed by every person that was blessed to know her. Her family looks forward to the day they will see her again in Heaven!

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Robert Schmidt of Cedar Rapids; daughter Katie (Brian) Miesbauer of Highlands Ranch, CO; son Erich (Jennifer) Schmidt of Irvine, CA; three grandchildren, Aiden, Aubrey, and Logan; and her brother, James Peters of Independence, IA.

Preceding her in death were her parents Floyd and Frances Peters of Vinton, IA.

June's life can be characterized by this quote: "A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul."

-Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
