Kathleen Kay Satterlee Shipley, cherished daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, and friend, peacefully passed away on June 1st, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in 1958 in Millington, Tennessee, Kathy was the daughter of Bill and Karen (Merchant) Satterlee. She graduated from Washington High School in Vinton, Iowa, in 1977 before embarking on a journey that led her to Phoenix, where she pursued her passion for law through an institutionally accredited paralegal studies program. Kathy's career path included invaluable contributions at a Scottsdale law firm and the Bureau of Land Management. Later, she found joy and fulfillment working at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, AZ, where she formed countless cherished friendships until her well-deserved retirement.
Kathy's life was a tapestry of passions. She found solace and joy in nurturing her garden, relished the company of her nieces and nephews, and exuded excitement for every Kansas City Chiefs game, especially on crisp autumn Sundays. The holidays held a special place in her heart as she delighted in the warmth of family gatherings.
Kathy leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories. She is survived by her loving parents, Karen and Bill Satterlee of Richland, Mo.; her son Matthew Maynard; Cali Decker Maynard, her granddaughter from New Orleans; Alex Maynard, her grandson from Independence, Iowa; her sister Dawn Satterlee Mateer of Phoenix, AZ; her brother Randy and his wife Andrea Satterlee of Kaiser, Mo.; her nieces Jacque Satterlee of Ashland, Missouri, and BreeAna Willis; her nephews Dustin and his wife Aliza Willis, Austin Mateer, all of Phoenix, AZ, and Tristan Satterlee of Warrensburg, MO. She also leaves behind numerous great-nieces and great-nephews who held a special place in her heart. Kathy is also survived by her aunts and uncles: Amber and John Jacobsen of Tucson, AZ; Joan and Harold Wright of Warrenton, MO; and Wynona Satterlee and Lee Downs from Independence, Iowa.
A celebration of Kathy's life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on June 22nd at the First Christian Church of Richland, MO, located at 1200 N. Highway
133, Richland, MO 65556.
Kathy's family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Chandler Regional Hospital for their unwavering care during her final days.
Though Kathy's gentle spirit has departed, her boundless love will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
In honor of Kathy's spirit, let us remember her motto: "Life is short; take the trip, buy the shoes, and eat the cake.
