Obituaries : Gerard "Jerry" Herman

Gerard "Jerry" Herman, 73, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed Friday, August 30, 2024, at his home with his family by his side. A visitation will take place on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 3 - 6 p.m. at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood in Cedar Rapids. Deacon Steve VanKerckvoorde will offer words of remembrance at 5:30 p.m. Inurnment with military honors will be held at a later date at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.
Jerry was born June 26, 1951, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Margaret (VanKerckvoorde) Herman. He graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1969 before proudly serving in the United States Navy. Jerry was united in marriage to Linda Lee Justice on August 11, 1973, at Belle Plaine Catholic Church. He was passionate about woodworking he loved what he did and did what he loved.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Linda Herman of Cedar Rapids; children, Craig Herman of Iowa City, and Marcy (Joseph) Zeadow of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Sydney (Zachary) Edmonds, Kaylee (Mitch) Smith, Samuel Zeadow, and Isabel Zeadow; one great-grandson, Mickel Edmonds; siblings, Dennis (Judy) Herman of North Liberty, Iowa, Angie (Jim) Patterson, Jeff (Julie) Herman, all of Belle Plaine, and Mike (Cindy) Herman of Moulton, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Diane Herman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Margaret Herman; and brother, David Herman.
