Doris A. (Smalley-Wood) Pippert, age 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the Vinton Lutheran Home. 

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton with Pastor Anne Williams officiating.

Doris was born in Mount Auburn on April 15, 1929, the daughter of Harold and Ella (Struve) Smalley. She graduated high school in 1947. On June 28, 1947, she was united in marriage to Elvin Wood in Vinton.  Elvin passed away on February 12, 1974.  On November 21, 1975, Doris was united in marriage to Carl Pippert in Vinton.  Carl preceded Doris in death on September 5, 2005.

Doris was an accomplished Bridge player and enjoyed playing in many clubs throughout her life.  She enjoyed sewing, embroidery and puzzles, and was known for her wonderful sense of humor.  Her family was her primary focus.

She is survived by her son Steve (Linda) Wood of Vinton; daughter-in-law Joan Wood of Sommerville, SC; step-children, Carl (Karleen) Gray of Vinton, Karla Pippert of IL, Catherine (Randy) Janssen of Van Horne; three granddaughters, Staci (Chuck) Greenwood of Vinton, Jill Lehman of Brandon, Parrish (Joe) Endy of Virginia; four great-grandchildren, Brooke Thomsen, Quinn Lehman, Naomi Endy, Ella Endy; many step grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; brother,  and Gene (Helen) Smalley of Shaumburg, Il.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; her son David Wood; step-daughter Christina Hendryx; sister Ruth McAndrews; and five brothers, Roy, Norman, John, Lee, and Jim Smalley.

LK October 9, 2024, 1:26 pm Doris and I shared many conversations when I rented her little house across the street. I think our relationship was cemented when I wouldn't let her back out of her date with Carl. We wrote to one another for years after she moved from her home. I will miss her sharp wit. She was one of a kind.
