Obituaries : Rodney James Bergen

Rodney James Bergen, 83, passed away on November 3, 2024, following a sudden illness.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street). Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024 at 2:00 PM also at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel (212 E. 6th Street) with Pastor Brian Channel officiating.

Memorials may be directed to Vinton and Urbana Fire Departments or North Benton Ambulance Services.

Rodney was born December 7, 1940 the son of James and Martha (Martin) Bergen. He graduated from Urbana High School in 1960. He always claimed that he had the best classmates and loved attending their class reunions. On December 1, 1973, he married Cynthia Cole.

Rodney worked for the IDOT for 40 years, retiring in 2000 after 40 years. Among his many hobbies was photography.

He is survived by his wife Cynthia; daughter Patricia (Mike) Pierce of Tennessee; grandchildren, Ashley Schonberg and her husband Brandon Koch of Washington, and Chad Meyer of Cedar Rapids; brother, Dennis of Nicaragua; 1 nephew, Dan of Vinton and niece Shawn and significant other Bill of South Carolina, and many great nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents James and Martha Bergen.
